Showrunner and series creator Eric Kripke originally intended this episode to be the series finale, as he envisioned the series as a five-season show. The CW's Supernatural was originally intended to wrap up with Season 5's finale that saw Lucifer defeated, the apocalypse averted and Sam in Hell while Dean lived the apple-pie life with Lisa and Ben.
